Members of the Swan Youth Theatre Senior Groups are celebrating after a fantastic weekend at the Worcestershire One-Act Play Festival last weekend. Winners of the Best Youth Play Trophy, and the Best Comedy Play Award, Catherine McPherson also beat the adult and Youth competition to win the Best Actress Award. The play was also the overall runner-up for the whole completion, for which 6 adult and 3 youth plays were entered. The play called Bad Reception, written by Paul Vincent, told the story of two schoolgirls from very different backgrounds, who are both given work experience at their school’s reception desk. Answering calls from different people they end up getting themselves into deep water! Director of the play, Chris Jaeger, said, “This is a tremendous achievement! To compete and excel against adult, as well as youth competition, is phenomenal. It’s great to know that the Swan Youth Theatre is nurturing some exceptionally talented and committed individuals”. Participation in the Festival was made possible through funding from The Margaret Westwood Memorial Charity and the Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank Foundation. Catherine McPherson was delighted to win the Best Actress Award. Her performance was described by judges as the “most compete acting performance of the weekend”. Catherine said, “We never expected to do so well, especially against the adult performances. It was such an exciting weekend and the whole of the cast and crew are absolutely thrilled. I’ve been with the Swan Youth Theatre since September 2005 and since joining my acting has improved a lot, and it’s just brilliant fun too” The Swan Youth Theatre runs classes for young people aged 5 to 18, for more information call 01905 746502. -ends- For further information, please contact Lorna Phillips at Worcester Live marketing department on Direct line 01905 727979 EMAIL: lorna@worcesterlive.co.uk Box Office 01905 611 427 www.worcesterlive.co.uk
