Sitting Pretty at The Swan Theatre! Thanks to a fantastic £85,500 grant from the Monument Trust (part of The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts), The Swan Theatre will have new seats in the auditorium as part of the ongoing refurbishment. The grant could not have come at a better time, allowing the work to take place while the theatre is closed for the refurbishment of the roof and air-handling system. The seats currently in the theatre have been there since the theatre opened in 1965, and are showing understandable signs of wear and tear. The new seating will be covered in a hardwearing and attractive blue fabric, which will last for many years to come – and be a lot more comfortable than the current seats. Chris Jaeger said: ‘This is the most fabulous piece of news, and means that when the Swan reopens in June, audiences will really be able to see, and feel, the difference! We are extremely grateful to the trustees of The Monument Trust for making it possible.’ Many of the existing seats are adorned with plaques where over the years supporters of the theatre have sponsored a particular seat. Seats sponsored within the last 3 years will have their plaques transferred over to the corresponding new seat – but anyone wishing to renew a sponsorship which is older than that, or sponsor a brand new seat, is more than welcome. The cost to sponsor a seat is £100. For more details on sponsoring one of the new seats please contact Chris Jaeger on 01905 726969. The Swan Theatre reopens in June with a full programme of theatre, dance and music.
