2009’s going to be a great year for the Swan Theatre as it undergoes extensive renovation and improvement works to prolong its life for generations to come. Now, thanks to Council Funding, a grant from The Monument Trust, the Foundation for Sports and Arts and in-house fundraising, the Swan Theatre will be launched into the 21st Century. The new look building will include a new roof, with major changes to the exterior including modern cladding to the rear and a large balcony extension to the bar area, which will give the theatre a modern, contemporary appearance, particularly when viewed from the direction of the Racecourse. Inside, patrons will benefit from a new air handling system to keep audiences warm in the winter and cool in the summer, whilst brand new seating throughout the auditorium will provide a smart new look and a comfortable experience! In addition the ground floor toilets will receive a much-needed makeover. Chris Jaeger, Chief Executive of Worcester Live, is delighted. “This investment from the City Council shows real commitment to the Arts in Worcester, and I can’t wait for the theatre to re-open so we can all start enjoying the improvements” The renovation work will ensure that the theatre remains a central hub of the community into the future.
