When Jean and Morris win two million pounds on the lottery they can’t believe their luck.
But such a large amount of money alters attitudes and behaviours. The semi hidden cracks in their marriage rise to the surface, their relatives become increasingly resentful and the past catches up with them. Despite this Jean continues to play the lottery and win! Meanwhile Morris takes off to Amsterdam with an old flame, but will his depressing prophecy that, “bad always follows good”, turn out to be true?
John Godber’s bittersweet comedy of northern married life gives us food for thought about the sudden acquisition of unexpected wealth and its impact on a couple’s relationship.
Is it always lucky?
